Jelly is one of the staples of breakfast, goes great on toast and makes an excellent addition for snacks. Jelly also goes great with a number and variety of crackers and other goodies. Jelly making is also a fun activity to share with kids. They are also a great way to learn and teach tradition and history.

Jelly making is something that brings back the feelings of togetherness and generational closeness that can often times is lost in the hustle of modern day life. Homemade jelly is also significantly better for you as you can control not only the ingredients but also how fresh they are. Onion and marmalade seems like an unlikely combination until you taste it. The onions are nearly caramelized with just a tad of oil, and then the vinegar and sugar create the sweet and sour tang, while the mustard seed adds a bit of bite. This condiment is perfect with pulled pork in a sandwich, lamb chops on a bed of garlic-mashed potatoes, or grilled hamburgers.
Onions and garlic are from the Alliums family. They are heart-healthy food, good for preventing bone loss in menopausal women, excellent source of vitamin C, vitamin B6, flavonoids, and chromium which helps to regulate insulin. Eating onions daily, can also lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of certain cancers.
